As stated I understand why a shield descussion should enter an FAQ for just these problems.

My understanding of the situation is that if the rules do not say you can, then you cant.
With this reasoning, the rulebook would have to state that you could have an additional shield. I do not see that anywhere. So i would assume that you could only have one shield period.
Then again, what do i know? I still a newbie

No you are right 1 shield..I mean you can cary more than one but the extra doesnt protect..if it did then people would wear shield armor all over their body.

Ok, real life has kept me away for a while, and I have missed way too many posts to be able to keep track of everything, so forgivce me if i miss, or repeat anything.
Sheild sizes where in the original write up, but have somehow been swept under the rug. We havent made a great issue out of it because there are soo many oversized sheilds right now. I have mentioned the problem to many people on the side, and most have chosen not to heed my advise. An official ruling will be made in the off season, but for the record the original sizes were...
Bucklers - 12" round or 10x10 square
Medium - 18" round or 18x24 square
Heavy - 24" round or 24x36 square
Before anyone complains about the size/area of the round sheild keep one thing in mind - I dont care.

So what if someone wants an oval shield? Where would it fall under? Sorry but area and/or circumfence should be considered. Look at the nero rules for some decent shield rules.
Also 24" round, is that radius or diameter? If diameter, that's alot smaller than the 24"x36" (~450" vs 864") and if radius, then well that's just friggin huge (864" vs ~1809").
Hey, you might not care but honestly, I'm glad these wil be worked on in the off season as they make little sense currently.

I do belive that Todd implied in his post that the sizes mentioed were never set in stone and that the details would be hammered out in the off season. That might be WHY they dont make sense, the rules arent ddone yet. Thet arent SUPPOSEd to make sense at this time, he was just tossing out some information.
At least that was my take on it.

If you notice (with the exception of bucklers) the max size of a round sheild is the same as the width of a square sheild. If you want an oval sheild go ahead as long as it doesnt exceed 18x24, or 24x36, respectivly.E.R. said~ So what if someone wants an oval shield? Where would it fall under? editors note; this aint nero
This one is obvious, see aboveE.R. said~ Also 24" round, is that radius or diameter? If diameter, that's alot smaller than the 24"x36" (~450" vs 864") and if radius, then well that's just friggin huge (864" vs ~1809").
What I dont care about is the fact that you might loose 7.643548 inches of total area by triming off the corners of your sheild. This leads to the 72"x6" sheild. We will not be dealing with total surface area. This leads to unsafe, and/or ludacris sheild construction. Someone even mention using a perferated sheild once so he could deduct the area not there. Not gonna happen.E.R. said~ Hey, you might not care but honestly, I'm glad these wil be worked on in the off season as they make little sense currently.
The sizes were originally set in stone, but too few of the sheild already in-game didnto conform to the rules so they havent been infornced. As to wheather the rules appear to make sense, I think somepeople must be missenterpreting something, because they are very simple, and clear. As far as off season goes. Yes, they will be looked at, and most likely changed, mostly because sizing becomes irelavent when you have ablative damage. (we have something similar to this in Boom/Damage ratings) I would like to simplify it by saying bucklers cannot exceed X size, and sheilds may not exceed X size. Then wheather you want an Oval, Round, Square, Heater, etc... shaped sheild, as long as it doesnt exceed Max size its ok.B.G. said~ I do belive that Todd implied in his post that the sizes mentioed were never set in stone and that the details would be hammered out in the off season. re
I rather use shield rules that allow people from most larps to use their shields in our game.

For those that don't know Nero rules adapted for our game would be basically this:
take a string 120" (10') long, and wrap it around your shield. If the ends don't meet, it's too big. This would just fit a 24"x36" shield. Any odd holes that would be shorter filled in, are assumed that way (ie the kite shield with a notch in the top left/right corner would be the same as a regular kite shield)
It doesn't get much simpler. Add a knot where buckler size is maxed and you have a permenant meausring stick for all shields (as we only have two).
If you'll notice, the largest area shield would be a circle, though rectangle fits a person better as people aren't spheres.
