Figured I'd start off this lovely topic. Yeah, I know NPCs will be discussing it but, figured we could all blather on aimlessly here till we see what will come of this spell.
For those that don't know:
Carapace (level 2 arcane spell)
Casting Time: 10 minutes (no focus circle allowed)
Effect: grants user 9 armor points covering the legs, arms, and chest over which no armor may be worn. These points count as heavy armor as far as skill use is concerned. This armor, however cannot be repaired nor healed nor removed by any other means than taking the damage. A helmet may be worn in addition to this armor. This armor will not protect against nerve pinch.
My thoughts are to add in the line "... as far as skill use is concerned, except utilize armor." This fixes the skill in my mind.
Granted there could be a 4th level spell that allows for the use of utilize.

I dont think he is referring to the spell Eric. I think he is simply referring to the fact that it takes 15 minutes of babbling for a sage to confer a bonus of any kind and it would take 45 minutes for them to give all 3 of their bonuses. Thats a lot of babbling and even a king bull shitter like me has a hard time babbling for 15 minutes about a narrow topic without just repeating myself over and over and over and over again.

What I meant with my Sage comment is completely off-topic, my bad. I just meant what Evan explained.
As for it taking a short time to cast, I don't see anything wrong with upping 15 minutes. (15 for the caster, 20 for someone else).
I don't feel this spell should be quicker than someone can field repair.

Course it doesn't really compare to field repair. A better comparison is the warrior's utilize recovery. This is 5 minutes for 6 (if the user is in heavy armor). Compare that to the 10 (or 15) for 9 and carapace isn't that great, and the warrior still has the armor below it that can be field repaired.
