Kiel's thread of reasonable questions and logic #1 Moving

Post by Kiel Reid »

See what I did there...

In a great many parts of the rule book it refers to times when you cannot move. That is a very broad term. As stated this means that whenever charging I must remain completely still like a statue.

What is the expectation?

*wanders in full of perfectly refined Ark specific ire ready to blast half baked, video game rules critiques. Spots that It's Kiel and looks around confused, then sad, and wanders off dejected to kick puppies or club a baby seal or sumtin*

Good question! I've always taken it as you can't leave the spot you're in, feet planted. I've never considered talking as moving. I would say that excessive dodging, bending at the waste or knees by 30 degrees or more, would count as moving. That's just my opinion though.

Its always been explained as cannot move your feet from the spots they were in when you started charging. no issue has ever been raised over evading or talking, but It should be clarified. In most LARPs with such restrictions its just movement form where your feet are planted, unless its a skill like a gargoyle turn to stone. Common differentiation terms used are immobile means cant move your feet, say for charging, ass opposed to cannot move, which means your a statue(although they do make allowances for discomfort, such as moving your feet after standing in the same spot for an hour, but that must be announced out loud by"moving for comfort" and you only get a few seconds. This too depends on how hardcore the rules mindset are for that LARP)

I agree the rules need to be clearer on this.

The intention as far as I have seen played is that any skill that you must remain still for (unless otherwise specified) means that you may not move your feet, but may bend at the knees and otherwise dodge as long as your feet do not move at all.

The Charged skill description states most of this but not as specifically as it should I believe.
