can long spells (river of stone etc) be held after casting. If not, why not?

It is my understanding they can be held and the person is under the effects of a having a charged ability charged. I also believe the person can not move, but not sure on that one.

I would concur with Aaron

that's what I figured. Can we have that added to the spell casting section?

Sure why not

I've never seen the "can't move after casting" caveat. I used to think that you couldn't but it was pointed out a few years ago that nowhere does it say that you can't move after a spell is cast and is in "charged ability" mode. It acts like every other charged ability at that point. Now if you want to change that it should probably be added to the book somewhere and pointed out in the updates or something.

It's part of the unused newish version of the spell formula but not in the old one. It's a GM call.

The charged ability keeps it nice and rolled up. we just need to toss it on top of the errata pile somewhere. (maybe in the arcane section)

So after the time is spent to cast an Arcane spell it is considered a "Charged ability" if not immediately cast and you can or cannot walk with it?

I believe they stated cannot walk around with it.
Mike?

Clarification needs to be made on spells in general. I got confused this last weekend at WH a few times.
I would suggest more description on the differences of Rites and Talismans, it seems the easiest place to indicate if a spell can be 'charged' or not.
Just my two cents.

Actually, those two have obvious distinction already. Talismans are cast and done. Sure, you could hold a talisman but most require the thing you are affecting be around for the casting and they can't leave so holding would be silly.
Casting rites/rituals can and cannot be moved after casting. If you can't then it should be in the description, otherwise treat exactly as a charged skill, just a really long one. Quite a few spells do make the distinction already. However, in general, if it doesn't, use common sense. If it seems dumb, don't abuse it. It's a spell by spell basis.
Arcane and Alchemy are two of the weaker points of the system. This is mainly due to allowed player created content. Generally, be mindful of that fact and you'll be fine.

I personally have mixed feelings about the spell system. I like the fact that it allows for some very powerful things to happen, but I also think to many of the spells are directed towards offense or are too unwieldy to be used.
I have my own opinions on how it should work, but that's just me and I'm not trying to change the system. I just think more consistency in the system is needed.
I would appreciate if the GM's would post clarifications for the spells. So all the Arcane users were on the same page.

that will never happen. Spells are private per caster and will never be publicly posted. If you have a question with a specific spell send one of them a PM.

This is why there are problems with the spells. And Alchemy.
