Monk: Level 4 Meditate
I know the game likes to support the one ability per level of skill paradigm, but I have a modest proposal.
A 4th Level Monk should have some "discount" to their survival requirements for resources. In my thinking, if a person can induce a death-like trance on themselves whenever they want, they probably go through less food than the average joe.
The level is already good, and I think that it would just add more to a great ability. Logistically, it just seemed to "fit" in my mind.

heh, I could see it. Monks could sacrifice giving alliegence and any inbetween event activities for like 2 food (and 1 shelter).
Course, it'd have to be looked at to ensure it wouldn't make someone able to gain resources just through skills.

My posts in no way reflect that of anyone else nor are they in any way official.
Goes to show how up-to-date some folks are. Good thing such people aren't in charge of the rules, or else we might have problems.cole45 wrote:shelter? me thinks that's from an old system.

I don't think it's that great. You still take damage, moreso since you can't move. It also won't help you from a player perspective, since in a pvp situation the player is going to chop you up unless they get stopped before they get around to it, also it's one of those metagaming moments where the player can figure out you are a monk and just playing dead. Most humanoids (Which make up the bulk of NPC fights) will do the same. It MIGHT help you with an animal, until it starts eating you.GM_Chris wrote:Logically it fits, balance wise it does not. It is already a very very good skill since you cannot die unless you get your head chopped off.
Just my opinions here, but I'd like to see it get SOME kind of OMPH, even if it's something along the lines of being able to remove toxins from their body while meditating. Not bleeding to death while meditating is the only saving grace and as it is, I'm not sure if that's still worth a level 4 ability...Monk might be a more desirable discipline anyway if it weren't for my next point:
The level 3 ability isn't that great either, unless someone can cite some examples in the last year where the immunity would have been helpful on a regular basis. You run into tossed magic pretty frequently (Which isn't covered), but not ranged vorpal, ranged crush or just plain numbers. The fact that it's an immunity instead of a resist makes it better, but it still feels lacking as a level 3 skill.
I'd like to hear a full-disciplined monk player comment, but I don't think we have any anymore? Or are they just being sneaky?
Good points, except that we do not have "metagaming moments"
There is nothing metagamming for a seasoned adventure who have seen monks know that they have the ability to not die from a serious injury.
From my standpoint though I have a hard time making something more meaty when people play monks yet people are not currently playing witch hunters.

Which could obviously negate the contract with the person who currently posesses it, right?Aidan_Mcpryde wrote:Don't remind me Eric.. Gahh to hear people scream for disenchant so much last game hurt my soul!
