Grenadiers
"Vince" was frustrated by all the things that required magic at the last event to hit so he wants to start all over again as a grenadier. He wants to know if, as a master Grenadier, he can throw for Magic Crush at a count of 20 seconds. I'm trying to talk him into just "unlearning" barbarian, then going grenadier if he really wants to take that disc, since he's a master warrior, instead of starting over from scratch, but he doesn't think he's allowed to completely unlearn his first discipline for some reason.
Also, he would start as a level 0, correct?

Mike: For the majority of you, choosing to use a packet instead of a weapon is a hindrance because your aims suck.
Travis: Crap he is on to me.

I am curious what he was fighting that only took magic damage. We RARELY have anything on the field that only takes magic damage. Things usually take discounted damage from normal if they have some sort of mormal weapon resist but take full from magic. PM me if you want to discuss it in private.

Piping up.
I think he might have been frustated at the FH practice(Muskegon.) he went to. We had a pratice there, that did not really replicate the true set up at current final haven.
I hope that is not the only reason he wants to change.

Let me add:
Yes you can completely unlearn disciplines
You cannot unlearn paths.
Also, even if we had an event were creatures were highly resistant or immunue to normal damage. The next event we may have creatures that are highly resistant or immune to magic.
There is ABSOLUTELY no way to be all things in the game.

I am almost positive that "Vince" (being his character name) has two events under his belt. So "Claude's" suggestion is out unfortunately.
I don't know what he was fighting, but I do know that being only able to swing for one damage (nothing else) does at times seem....weak. That is not to say that I think this is change. I just know that there have probably around a dozen times I've been in a fight and pretty much not doing a damn, damage wise. There have been close to a half dozen times when the NPC I am fighting stops, looks at me, and says "You don't seem to be having an effect on it." I look back and say "I know! , usually this is because I am drawing it off other people or distracting it for someone to backstab, etc. Dueger (sp?) would of course be the king of this.
**visualizes Chris jumping up and down "Zero! Zero! Hit Me! Hit Me! Zero! Zero!"**
I would also say that I've gone around for an event with the means to make my sword swing major (Thanks Arcane Buddy!) and never used it.
Back to the original topic - Yes he can unlearn any discipline (Chris already covered this), but I'm not sure I understand how he wants to throw Magic Crush? What other skill is he thinking about using?

LOL I wonder what plots you are on to not have an effect at 1 damage.
I will tell you that the bigger monster, well ok aloyt of monsters will have like 100hit points since there are like 30 of you to 1 of us we need to have lots of hit points so we dont die instantly. That doesnt mean 1 damage doesnt do anything.
As for creatures who say "your damage has no effect" there could be the following reasons:
1) Not effected by normal weapons (I believe a ghast falls into this catagory)
2) Not effected by magic (I believe a Fae is in this one)
3) Not effected by edge (Not telling)
4) Not effected by blunt (not telling)
5) Not effected by missle (not telling)
6) Creature has 1 life point and 30 dodges. This means it takes 30 hits to kill the creature no matter how much damage you swing. great when in mixed company since the heavy hitters are no better than the weak hitter.
7) Only effected by posion (not telling)
Immune to press which usually goes with infinite press
So there is a wide variety of monsters

I personally didn't see any problems at the last event, and I wasn't with him for much of the combat.
I'm trying to get him to log in and talk to someone...or just take Grenadier with his points he gets next, since he still plans on being a warrior, and all he would have to unlearn is 2 levels of barbarian.
It would be silly for him to start all over for such a small change, I'm trying to help him think of alternate ideas.
What would happen if he took first level grenadier at next event, and then unlearned barbarian? Would grenadier then count as his first class? Would he get the extra points that he spent on grenadier before it was his primary class back?
I hope that made sense?

Just because I'm feeling froggy, and in the mood to stir the pot (I'm sure it will pass), I'm going to trow out some old school advice. (If the game is only 3 1/2 years old can it really be called 'old school'?)
Anyway, back in my day the Discipline you chose at character creation was considered your 'Primary Discipline'. I mean why would you choose one you werent going to play? Upon choosing your next Discipline it became 'Secondary' and so on. If you were to pass up the number of levels in your Primary, there places would be likewise exchanged.
Ex. Tommie is playing a Basic level Warrior (Path), Barbarian lvl 1 (Discipline). After his event he takes 2 lvls of Warlord (Discipline). In this case Warlord becomes his 'Primary Discipline', while Barbarian becomes 'Secondary'.
I believe this scenario mirrors the one mentioned, with Grenadier replacing Warlord.
