Helmets -N- Armor

Post by Claude du Sinjin »

Just curious why helmets are only 1 pt. of armor regardless of armor category, especially now that they do not make you immune to certain knockout attacks.

The reason I ask is that I see some people wearing hats that count as armor earning them 1 pt. Then I see people wearing actualy helmets, that only get them 1pt. Considering how heavy and awkward a helmet is, in addition to reducing your hearing and vision, it strikes me as quite unfair that those people only get the same bonus as someone wearing a hat.

Just my 2 cents...

Very simple really. The GMs don't want people running around with 2pt helmets. Too much armor for too little use. This has been discussed many many many times. Quite simply it's easier rules wise to count all helmets the same. If you don't like the weight, then don't wear a heavy helmet. Mine's itchy and uncomfortable but it fits the armor style so I wear it.

Other than that, since helmets don't count towards your armor catagory, you'll get people wearing heavy helms and light armor. To counter that you could make 3pt helms but now max armor has gotten out of control. It's just simple to leave it at 1. If you don't like the light helms, roleplay accordingly. Tease Corbyn for his sissy hat, and Arthos for the dead rat on his head. :D
