OOHH instead of Asassin it could be "super sneaky don't get cauight alone with this one"
My problem with the witch hunter are really semantic, it's a derogatory term for a certain religions members. You wouldn't have a kike hunter and to me it's the same thing. But I raised this issue long ago and noone else cares.

If Christians were in the game, and they were considered evil then we would probably have Catholic Hunters. However they are not, and they are not considered 'ooky' or 'evil' (in-game, let's not get into this debate, pls ), so they are not.
"Witches" or "Mages" however are in game, and can summon fireballs and such, and as such are considered by most "ooky" and by many, "evil". Thus we have Witch Hunters.

Yeah yeah yeah and CARPS changed not FH, this is about FH not CARPS.

We didnt change it because it wasnt the off season not that we didnt care.
More than happy to change it.
I would like to change it to mystic though and here is why..you guys are simply not zealot enough.
if I was playing a witch hunter I would have a sage (RP'd it like a mystic)on a bloody leash to forsee events for me while I went around killing arcanes, empaths, eater of the dead, sages who RP'd like mystcs, and really anything else that seemed unnatural, like say druids

So much debate over semantics.. really. With discplines like these I do not think we need to be so literal. Just because you are called a "Witch-Hunter" does not mean you need to hunt only witches.. I like to think of the disciplines as a guidline for the character and they help flesh out the background and such. The name is nice to give a rough guideline.. as I am playing a Witch hunter, but I am sure my hunter is different in style and form as any others our there. Well there is my 2 cents worth.
Your Knowledge cannot save you,
Your Magic cannot save you,
Nothing can save you!
Your Magic cannot save you,
Nothing can save you!
Another problem with the term "Witch Hunter", other than the OOC implications, is the IC implication. The witch Hunters were a sect of the Mages Guild. Just because you have their skill set does not mean you are a member or former member of their organization thus have no right in the eyes of the old Silverthornians to call yourself a Witch Hunter. Basically it takes a cool in game cult and makes it an out of game designator. Me no Likey. I am in favor of Mystic Hunter or Magiphobe

I'm with Wes. Witch Hunter sounds cool, and I like the implication they hunt Evil magic users ('Witches') of all types, and might leave the mages that use their powers for good, or to hunt other Evil witches, alone... ::Crosses fingers::

Keep in mind folks...its just a label. We all know Ka a knight. If we went by the literal meaning of that name, Ka would be required ot act VERY differently, Eric plays Ka like a mercenary who is adept at heavily armored melee combat. That is his interpretation and its fine because the discipline names are just there so we dont have to say things like "warrior-type-guy-thats-good-with-blades" discipline.

The Mages Guild of CARPS is Psi Corps.
RE
WARNING!!!!
Im at work the following hasnt even gotten 1 look over for grammer or spelling. Also perhaps a bit of a spoiler, but this info is out there for public viewing for the most part. Some of this might be slightly wrong as well. Just trying to make things interesting.
Well the witch hunters have a complicated history since mages have a very complicated history.
Lets see (and note this has no bearing on current CARPS play) We ran a plot at CARPS where some people (these people no longer play carps) came across a diary of a king in some ruins of before Dorchek was part of Silverthorn. Now the king heard of a great army comming his way and he was searching for a solution. Low and behold an "old man" appears to assist. He tells the king of a book that can help him, but that the book was protected by an evil monster. Well the king sent forth his best to recover the book while the "old man" became his advisor. Well I dont want to give away too much but lets just say 1 knight returned with the book. Well the diary clearly shows how the king becomes more and more crazy. At the end his advisor dissapears and in an attempt to keep his kingdom in tact he goes on a killing spree and turns his populus into statues by the create use of pikes. It was said that he was dancing among the flames and dead.
Now I am not giving all away but that story is important missing link to alot of things that happened in old carps and for furture stuff. Now there was the essence war that showed how bad magic was. Now the problem was killing all the mages is not nessessarily the answer since more would be born, plus they are very handy to have around if properly controlled. Well the mages loyal to silverthorn promise to control all mages as a means of ensuring none organize to rise up against the king. Again this is all because of the essence wars. So um lets see the powerful mages create the witch hunters by altering a human giving them great power and the ability to resist magic. Well these hunters of mages could be very danagerous so there were many wards and such placed upon them so they are basically servants.
Moving on we still have necromancers who exist outside the mages guild control. Once such mage was Narnian who was protected by an outdated House law keepinghim out of the mages guild. Well he was very very bad and a long story short was hell bent on destorying one little town. He was put down and his essence taken to Silverthorn to speak to a great Essence mage who resided there. Well Narnian is a power foe even without a body and was able to warp the minds of the peasants creating a riot that roceeded to burn the town. When they reached the essence mage all he could say was "what have you done" when behind the essence mage steps an "old man" with a smil on his face. Should I mention that the buring of silverthorn castle is a profetic sign of the end times? Hmm interesting no?
well I will stop here and say this old man pops up one more time and another great event in history takes place which I believe is documented in the 50 year history leading up to the cataclysm.
My question is...by design? Did the players really win?
Now a days the witch hunters are not the original hunters but offspring and those with the talent, though you may occasionaly find an original. (Witch hunters couldnt bread, but some things change) The hunters successfully destroyed alot of the mages before the cataclysm. The witch hunters are VERY mistrustfull of mages because of ALOT of reasons most of the real reasons forgotten to them..they hate, but they dont know why.
Well that should be enough info that the scholarly can well fill in some of the gaps.

Here is an exerpt from the History of the Age of Humans located at http://www.finalhavenlarp.com/lore/history/human.html
‘After the essence wars at last ended with the near total annihilation of both sides, but the preservation of the world, a new faction seized power. These were the elemental mages, who used the raw force of the four primal strengths to achieve their magic. They wielded power like an iron gauntlet and marked all who opposed them magically so no descendant would ever escape their eye.’
‘Mankind revolted after more than three centuries of abuse and took the power of state back into the hands of the ungifted. No man of magic has been permitted within office of political power since these dark days passed.’
This caused a great hatred of mages to be engrained in the peoples of the continent. When the Kingdom was founded in 726 P.E.W (post essence wars) , the King new he needed mages to help build his empire. He knew they could be a great weapon but he knew better than to trust him so He made it manditory for all mages to be a member of the Mages Guild. The thought was that they could be watched and controlled better that way. Also, the King had a few key spies amongst the guild to keep tabs on them. The witch-hunters were made to go after the rouge magic users.
Later on the witch hunters were used to go after Toevass because of an obscure law that allowed a mage to be a member of Toevass and not have to be a member of the Mages Guild. The guild resented the law and was able to get that part of the House's charter revoked. This caused what was to become known as "The War of the Magi" and provoked the King's Wrath.
