About Houses

Post by GM_Chris »

Ok so we took the guild skills and tossed them into the house skills without any reevaluation which we will also do during this off season.

My question to you all is about houses. Houses have intrinsic power in the organization of two guilds, but what about the person who runs the house.

A guild leader gets to be handed tokens which gives him a certain amount of power. A thane gets military units in addition to the skills he can hand out. These powers are good and well the military units rock.

House leaders really do not get much in the way of power except they can determine who becomes a thane and all the RP bennifits that go along with being house head. Is it enough? Each leadership position should be desierable from a mechanical standpoint as well as a RP standpoint so as to facillitate populas greed and agression for those possions. Forexample minds eye does a great job of making people want to be the prince or what have you.

Suggestions?

Well the skills were enuogh to make people want to be guild heads and now you get more than you did before. And as you mentioned if you get to Thane level or higher you get troops to call upon. If that's not enough I don't know what would be.

Not that I want to do anything to facilitate the aforementioned greed and aggression, but I think that tweaking or enhancing the skills/powers list a bit should be adequate. I definitely think that NPC troops should be limited to nobility...employing that should be a rare thing. We have also talked about having buildings that enhance resource stockpiles (loom, tannery, granery, etc.), or developing rules governing them in the off-season. What about having the operation or possibility of construction of these buildings tied to the House head? The interest earned from the operation of those buildings could be tags handed to the House head at game on, as the Guild leaders get trade route tags. This would be interesting cause Guild leaders generally get a bunch of one kind of tag, but a House head could get a few of several different resources, depending on how many buildings he/she was able to have the house construct.
