You might want to wait on putting duct tape on the sword until after the crossguard is on... It helps on cutting the weight and makes the crossguard a bit more sturdy.
Other than that, looks good

Looks good to me!
If you have something like grip tape, or something to wrap around the handle, it may help you too. A lot of use, and the duct tape starts to move and get sticky. If you wrap it in leather, or something that will be easier to handle and won't move on you, it'll give you a better grip and won't erode. However, it's not a necessity. From what I can tell, it looks like 90% of the other similarly constructed swords on the field.
Technically, I believe that wooden weapons (like clubs) must be made with brown tape. I doubt someone will think they're being hit with a metal pipe. ^.^
As for the guard... hmmm. Perhaps find a rubbery round/square container lid that you can put a hole (the size of the handle) in the center of, then slice to the middle. Then duct tape it to the handle and cover it in tape to match?
To be honest, most folks don't put guards on their similar weapons that I've noticed.

o.O I'm sure it's softer than the latex swords.
If you want to make another sword, so be it, but I'd see if the GMs (field marshal) will approve it anyways.

thats the general rule with weapon craft:GM_Chris wrote:I am unsure if it cant be used have someone hit you with it a few times and see how you feel.
-dont make anything on a weapon smaller then an eye. (dont want anyone loosing an eye when you throw a packet or toss a sword to em )
-dont make anything you yourself would not want to get the crap beat out of you with. (if you die or get bruised, make a new one )
It looks good to me but I don't have it in hand so I cant judge it.
Here's a guideline for making a basic boffer weapon.

No info on how to create a crossguard yet.
