He pours half the bottle into his new intricately carved stein that shown like silver, then stared at Fionna. He stretched his neck a bit then softened a bit before speaking as if he were explaining something slowly. "No, the best thing to fight and die for would be the honor of my people, the lives of my own kind, and the glory of my ancestors against the fowl ork minions of Grom. To avenge myself, lift my curse, and win back my right into the Hall of Fathers."

Esmerelda turns a level gaze at the dwarf.
"Well sir, you are not in Caledonia proper, which is why you'll find things a bit different here. The refugees here have had a hard time of it and tend to cherish the small amusements we find in our down moments.
"As fo for finding your honor, I highly doubt that it is lurking in the bottom of the bottle. But you'd be hard pressed to find a better cause than stopping the elves. They took away my home by treachery and dishonor and if they are not checked will overrun the land on a far worse scale than the hordes of Gromm ever could have. And the people here are not without honor themselves. We restored the great bell and returned it to the dwarves that live in the mountains. If you want to defend your people, come with us when we fight to put down the elves. Or you can drown yourself in drink and wait for them to show up and put all the citizens to the slaughter. Your choice."
With a careless gesture she tosses another dart at the board. This one almost hits dead center on the target.

The dwarf scowls at Esmerelda and then laughs heartily, "If your thinking of aiming one of those stingers at me you'll find my hide a bit tougher than that board. Do not presume what I seek at the bottom of a bottle or what needs my thirst fills. Refugees have it hard all over Phanterra, I've lived their nightmares for fifty years. What makes you think these displaced souls deserve my pitty more than the rest? The elves have always been treacherous bastards with pretty faces. Your Kings of men chose never to heed the warnings my kind gave chalking our hate up to fiery blood feuds and illogical grudges, but now that their true natures are unveiled you ask me to fight them for you because all what we told you turned out to be true. This is rich comedy. I wish my fellows could enjoy a laugh, but sadly they're all happily dead and gone on. You can have your cookies and small amusements wherever you please, but I cherish little anymore. I've lost everything I have ever held dear my entire life. Korrigan talked me into following you all here to fight in the defense of Caladonia and the people who know the ways of my people, and I am as yet underwhelmed. I know nothing of this bell or of the dwarves you speak. I can understand fighting to protect Caladonia as they are at least known to me, but I've sworn no oaths to you or anyone to take on an offensive against all Silvandar."

Cristo takes another swig of his rum and tries to keep his balance as he throws a dart 2 feet off the target. He looks at the two ladies with an accusing look.
"Hey, you...guys....are...cheati..."
Cristo loses his balance and falls. You hear a loud smack as his head hits the floor.

Scarlet heard the invitation for cookies and a not-so-delicate eyebrow lifted. Did she know Scarlet was there? Scarlet was in the middle of examining the sweet-looking puffs of dough, having never had one in her life, when the drunken sailor (pirate) came in to play darts and ogle the women. Wanting no part of the ogling, and definitely wanting to avoid any possible stray darts, she crept back onto her ledge and watched...
The dwarf's words rang deep within her. She too knew pain and loss of everything she had known and loved...hadn't most people nowadays? The world was a helluva place for anyone to live, and it got harder every day just to get by.
So, Caledonia was nearby. That information was helpful. She'd heard from passer-by over the many months that Caledonia's lands were refuges for those who had survived the Night of the Burning Skulls, as they called it. This made things difficult, she thought, for what would they do to her once they saw her pointed ears? Though she looked mostly human, it didn't take a genius to see the points of her elven ears under her red hair.
She chewed on her bottom lip, choosing to wait and observe a bit more before coming down to enjoy nourishment. A hungry belly is far better than being dead....

Val grumbled. Then set his mug down and walked over to Christo, and picked him up from the floor. He carried the human to a bed and lay him upon it. He checked the bump on his head. Lifted an eyelid to see if how his pupils looked. Wiped the dust from his face with a rag, and went back to his drink.

*Fionna sends a harsh look to Val at his comments to Esmerelda*
"Sir, many of us know too well the issues of refugees. Life is a daily struggle, but we can take a little comfort in enjoyment with others. My people have lived and worked near your kind for many years. We share many dwarven sentiments. It was until I left home, I felt we were safe in our own lands. Now that I can see with out the filter of my mother, I know we must act. It is the simple things we can enjoy now and preserve for the future."
*She follows the dwarf to the bed in which he lays Cristo. The healer examines him determine the extent, if any, of his injury from the fall. The young woman tends to Cristo, with the tenderness and kindness.*

Esmerelda approaches Fionna. "Is he alright? I hope he didn't hit his head too hard when he fell."
She pulls out a cleanse potion and hands it to her friend. "If we get attcked, this should sober him up quick enough. I need to wash off the dust from the road. I'll be back in a bit." Fionna can see the weariness in her friend's eyes.
Stopping by the ledge of the balcony before heading down, the young woman sets a small plate of cookies down. She then returns downstairs and goes down the hallway to her room.

*Upon assessing Cristo's injuries, she awakens the young man. She then gives him the cleanse potion to clean out his system.*
"Es, you are right, he ought to sober up a little. Go clean yourself up, I can take care of him."
*A knowing look is exchanged between the young women. They seem to understand each other with out the need for speech. Fionna continues to tend to Cristo to be sure he is fine.*

*She smiles slightly at Cristo*
"Oh come on, we can have fun playing darts with or without rum! Besides isn't it better to remember the good times."
*She gives him a wicked little grin, grabs a dart and tosses it at the board. Her smiles broadens when the dart embeds itself near the center of the target.*

Cristo takes the rest of his darts and hands them to Fionna
"I really should be getting back to the house of chance actually. Thanks for the cookies and everything. I'm curious about how my brothers are doing and I've got a seat at the roulette table with my name on it. You can hang on to the darts and board for awhile though.
Cristo waves goodbye as he walks out of the Inn. His steps seem to be much more graceful now and he has no trouble at all on his way out. His smile still heartwarming and his stench a little less powerful.
