"They're simple and open to speculation on purpose. They need to be... malliable, flexable, so that they can fit any situation. I do not want to litigate every minute aspect of people's lives. That's just not going to work in this kind of world. No, they're simple so everyone can understand them, and so that everyone can have fair representation under the law."

She shrugged. "I know that there are some who would seek to... twist them, use them to do evil. I say let them try. The Council is not full of fools, nor am I, nor the Constable. Do the laws requre a little trust of the Council, yes, but life requires that as well. Every day we out our fates in the hands of those we trust. Law works much the same way, in my mind. I'd rather have the laws simple and easy to understand than too complicated. Laws are like... fences: they can protect you from harm... or become a prison. I like to see these as simple laws to keep us safe, not too many to make a prison of."
