But, Newbies wouldn't have to worry about 18-20 Skills. Newbies start out with, what, 5? It'd take a Newbie a long time to have enough Skills to complicate things, and by the time they do, the'd understand the system and not be Newbies any more.Tonia Glowski wrote: Brad, your "14 skills active and 4 skills passive" is hella complicated for someone new to LARPing and even possibly someone new to FH. It doesn't make things that much better and risks losing people's interest in the game system.
Skill use.

Eric,
Sorry, I missed the bow skills. But if I remeber correctly it says in the skills you can use them together to create a magic 9 vorpal arrow. So my pharagraph still holds true.
I still think a simple disclaimer would work.

I was simply making a suggestion. That was the title of the forum thread so I felt I would add the suggestion. I was by no means trying to tell the GM's how to run/operate/write their game. I was trying to make a suggestion that they can then look at and hear different viewpoints on and decide if they want to use it.
So far things seem pretty split on this suggestion with several people being against it, several people being for it, and several people wanting at least some sort of clarification.
The main reason it was brought up was because when I asked NPC camp the question I got a 50/50 split on the answer.
Can Florentine be used while raging??
Half the NPC's said yes, the other half said No. I am all for keeping the game simple and easy, but if even the NPC's cant answer that question correctly I tend to believe it is a matter of confusion and was offering a solution to help clarify that confusion. It is by no means the only solution, or even the best solution....it was just the solution I presented to them at the time I presented the question. So I have posted it here as a reminder to the GM's.

I think you're "hearing" me wrong. Curse the lack of tone on message boards!
I have no problem with anyone making suggestions, whether you're a GM or not. I'm simply saying that I think GMs tend to have GMitis and want to add and "help" any game system out of pure love for the game.
I was trying to get us all to slow down and think for a second about whether we needed to add something or not. If you see it as a clarification, by all means, consider it, but the thread started to sound like an unnecessary addition to me and I was hoping to reign it in.
Please don't take offense to my words as none were intended.

OK, heres my take on the whole thing, and this is by no means a dicision, just my view point.
Against - The possible complication of something that doesnt need to be. The addition of something else to remember.
For - Clarification. Defeating 'Cheese-Weasles'.
A list would be outdated if/when we added new skills. A disclaimer would work until the afor mentioned CW's got a hold of it. Adding Active/Passive to each skill requires additional information to remember.
The thing about CW's is that while some players will look at a skill and say
~"Well it doesnt say I can combo them so I assume I cant."
A CW will look at the exact same skill and say
~"Well it doesnt say I cant combo them so I assume I can."
Its a fine line to walk, but I think the Active/Passive thing could clean it up. As I said this is far from a ruling. Just my POV.
