Pshaw... all the PC's in this game are knights in shiny white armor and we all ride white prancing unicorn stallions with ribbons in their mane and a multicolored butterfly resting on the tip of it's horn. >_<
I like the fatal aspect of this game, and I certainly agree that sometimes death is heroic and sometimes it's just bad luck or bad RP. When the game originally started some people were saying that it was too fatal, most of those people weren't playing the game though. I also think the mecahnics lend themselves to fewer wrong place wrong time deaths. In alot of games if a new pc goes on the wrong plot they will have an extremely high chance of death. The higher the potential consequences or level of loss to your actions the more thought and care most people wil put into their actions, loss and the fear thereof is what I think is one of if not the most motivating factor people will face in situations. For example, online or video game poker, people will drop 10G's in a few seconds, even the pro's who aren't playing with their own money take more time to make those decisions than that. If you go and watch med to high stakes games at the casino you'll see even more drama and hesitation. Everyone's a hero wannabe when there are no consequences or fear of loss.

Don't get me started!Doctor Erasmus wrote:Heh, Jim is still kicking himself over that.
Just to add an example. There was a group of PCs this last event who were planning what amounted to a suicide mission. The death was not a factor this would have been uninteresting. Who cares if these characters die, if they respawn? These PCs were going somewhere their bodies would not be recoverable, so ressurrection. But as they saw it was that commit suicide or let the world die. So I did what I thought my character would do. I prepared him to die fighting the good fight.
Now you have to understand that the fact that this is a LARP and that resurrection does takes some of ther Heroism out of it. But I think the GMs do a good job balancing playability and heroism. The rest of being a hero is left up to the players. Sometimes we forget this. There are things other than death and can show heroism.
Hey, its not like the game can be entirely realistic to the stature of supposed heroes. One hit tends to take a lot of people in real life out, where here we take multiple. Its okay because its a game. We need rules to make up for the fact that while I don't practice spear techniques every day, my character probably does.
Oh, and if I see a singing worm next game, I'll make sure to run for my life.

Eilonwy will be posting a try-out sheet for the "Knights of the Round Table" gig which will be known as the "Knights of the Rose Fable". Yes, Chargoth and Darkarath, even the dead may apply. Any cats out there that can yowl with feeling?WayneO42 wrote:If you think the last event was deadly just wait until Final Haven: The Musical
