We need to get in some winter combat practice. The only thing better than running around like 4 year olds on Jolt Cola hitting each other with sticks is freezing your butt off while doing it.

Winter Practice

Post by Torakhan »

Tomorrow (January 20th) is supposably a snow-storm or something... and later in the day may be Craic Wisely at the Black Rose in GR.
January 27th is the LARP party
Maybe try to make February 4th a tentitive date if it's not too bad out? Maybe even try for a Nesting of sorts if not practice?

Well, I spoke to Wes on Friday, and it seems that we may want to start working on organizing pracitice sessions.

The primary question I have is: Is McGraft Park still the designated beating people location, or does anyone want to submit suggestions for a new practice location. If you do, now is the time to do it, before we get into a habit of meeting at McGraft.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the Muskegon Practice Session thing (either never heard anything about it 1st, 2nd, or 3rd hand/new to the boards and have never physicaly played at Final Haven), here it is in a nutshell: every Friday (or so) the west michigan Final Havenites congregate at McGraft Park (in Muskegon off Sherman Blvd.) in varying numbers (5-18) and hit each other with foam-covered sticks, occasionally doing large picnic/grilling things.

I would like to note that this would be a good opportunity for new players interested in getting involved in Final Haven to get a taste of foam combat (for those entirely new to LARP) and/or get exposure to and gain some first-hand experience with the FH combat rules in application.

you forgot about the vast amounts of children who flock in our direction wanting to beat on people just like the adults are doing. Horray Mini Haven!

Being in a well seen place, people often come ask what we are doing. It's great advertising.

Just one correction: It's typically every Saturday, unless that's changing this year, right?

Unfortunately my work schedule is particularly condusive to practises right now, whether they be Saturday or Sunday. But I would attempt to at least make an appearance.

Yes it is hard to swing a sword with snow on the ground but it makes it a hell of a lot more fun......to fall down. Or we can give it a little more time and what a littlie longer before practices start up. I would love for us to practice snow and all but I don’t think it is that good of an idea.

I am new to the game and would love to get some practice in and get advice from those who have done this a lot longer than I. Sundays are okay for me but i can also do Saturdays.

Well, I think with the new people and all we may want to look at where folks are located. I know Wes has set up a site to pinpoint where people are located, but maybe at our first event and practice we need to get out a map and have people put marks on it or something.

Anyways, I guess more directed to you, "Laura", and other new people reading this, Where are you located?

Our practices are geared more towards the Muskegon group of the West Michigan people, though many are also from Grand Haven too. If there was a larger number of people from GH or more Southern/Eastern areas, we may want to think of adding another practice, or finding a more centralized location.

We only have 2 months before the next practice, and chances are it's not going to get nice and warm out before that, so I don't know if we'll get any full-scale combat practice in. If you do need to get some practice in, get directly in contact with some of us (or contact me and I'll try to get you in touch with closer folks).

I am actually located in Muskegon. I was also at the last event with Allura. So I do know a little about how things work. I just did not get in a whole lot of combat last event. I thought it might be better if the newbie stayed out of the way. I am hoping to get more involved next event and I thought that if people were getting together to practice that I should go and see more how other people do things and maybe get advice. So wether there is a practice before April or after I will probably try and be there.
