I don't have any idea where you got that notion. I wanted to stay and DISCUSS our differences -- never did I utter the word fight. Please don't put words into my mouth. Tensions are high right now, and everyone needs to relax.
Yes I could have gone my own way sooner, but it would have been folly. None of my team was their to aid me, and despite your (in my opinion) poor decision to save the girl first, me on my own wasn't going to be able to save Donovan. I wonder if your motives in helping the voice before Donovan were really as pure as you make them out to be.
But at any rate, its obvious that our ways differ greatly, and obviously noone is going to convince anyone else that their way was the correct solution in this situation -- perhaps i was wrong. Maybe we should shake hands and go to our respective halls to cool off.

Arthos
*Arthos crawls out of the hole, dusts himself off and takes a seat. He listens to the argument. He gets up and walks over to the constable*
How do you fair my friend. I'm glad to see you are alright. I'll take care of this,
*Arthos turns to the group and shouts*
ENOUGH.
Lets stop fighting amongst ourselves. The enemy is below us.
Yes we have two different philosph's going on here. The Phonex Guild will do anything to save or help one of their own even if the means hurting or leaving possible or supected enemies to die. I know nothing of your guild, but by your actions and words this is what you have shown me. You prize the life of a member of the phonex guild over most or all other life. Fair enough.
The Guild of light cares for any and all peaceful life. We will destroy what is evil and protect what is innocent and good. This means we will go to cry for help, talk before drawing weapons, and do what is right.
All the arugments in the world will not change our views, so lets drop it. We need to work together to survive this new world we are in. If people want to arguee than go outside.
*Turns to Dovan*
Can you tell us what happened. We are all ears.

*To Donovan*
"Kaber is right. Most of the head-butting down there happened over and about Argyle. The risk of not being sure about him was not something we were not going to dismiss. Arthos thought that our actions were over the top and not necessary. That is the short of it."
*To Argyle*
"It would seem that your story checks out so far.......so.....I apologize."
*To Azara*
"We did want to split up, but Arthos thought that would be a bad idea. In regard to Argyle, If I were the Druid, I would pose as the most unsuspecting person. That would be a clever roose indeed. Also, when we did split up, and 'not doing anything to help' as you put it, we were fighting bugs in another passageway on your flank. And......"
*Turns back to Donovan*
"We found these......"
*Curufin pulls out all of the pieces of parchment that he found and gives them to Donovan*
*Back to Azara*
"No one on our side wants anything to come to blows."

Perhaps you didn't quite grasp what I was saying, mighty arthos -- your remarks are not accurate. Had the captured teamate been a member of your guild, I would have reacted the same way (although I somehow doubt it would have taken much convincing not to save the girl first in that event). By "one of our own" I mean any of us here.
*Azara calmly looks over to Curufin*
You mentioned drawin' blades before the discussion began. Bein' as you did not know Argyle, I do not know you very well and with that openin' statement ya lead me ta believe that is where you'd prefer ta go.
It is over with, it is done. Donnovan is fine and as far as it goes that is what matters.
*Turns to Donnovan*
My appologies for interupting ya before ya even spoke. Now if ya dunnot mind, how'd ya manage ta get away?

Argyle looks around the room at all the arguing, nods to Curufin when he apologizes and says, "Understood. Stress does things. Oh dear, that is quite a mess to sweep up now, it will never get done. Hopefully, this ends my obligation and my family will be safe..." Seeing the papers being passed to Donovan, "Are those drawings? That's odd, very odd indeed..."
During the argument and commotion, the man who was with Donovan heads for the exit, muttering about needing some fresh air. If no one stops him, he leaves.

<adjusting for timing. Donovan would stop the guard from walking away. He also comments that his story will have to wait a moment, as there are other things to be dealt with.>
*Glances back and forth between the people gathered around the pit. Turns to the guard and speaks slowly, obviously displeased.*
"I must apologize friend. Perhaps I was wrong when I said the people here would be able to defeat Bear and save your families. Perhaps we should have stayed in our cells."
*Shifts to the rest of the group. A smile crosses his face, but it clearly does not reach his eyes.*
"First, thank you all for your efforts on my behalf. Ka, Kathryn, Arthos, Azara: I am in your debt. Curufin, Brikal, Kabre, as your commander I commend you for your actions and as a friend I am grateful. You bring pride to our order. "
*The smile fades.*
"Second, there will not be any conflicts among the peoples here. What I am hearing is a difference in approach, not a true disagreement. The Phoenix Guard is a military unit, and as such we operate in a manner that might appear harsh to outsiders. Be assured that we do so out of experience, and that the lessons that brought us to act as such were paid for in blood. The guard does not bring harm to the innocent, but if taking the time to coddle someone may cost us our objective, we are trained to be blunt. It offends my sense of courtesy, but I would rather be seen as cold than be cold in the earth."
"However, if I was concerned for my own safety, I would not have accepted the position of Constable. My men know that, and know that my concern would have been for the safety of the people as a whole. If we ask the people here to accept our military ways, we must also be accepting of their methods. I will not tolerate division. We cannot afford to be squabbling amongst ourselves with the safety of others in question. There are still people in those tunnels, and the families of these men need to be protected. I am going to retrieve my armor and equipment, and then I am going to make sure this Bear fellow stops praying on the people of Final Haven."
*Walks away from the group. After a few paces he stops and speaks over his shoulder.*
"We all have a choice. We can work together, or perish apart. If I am to be an effective Constable for this land, I expect that my decisions will be respected. As of this moment, this is what needs to happen."
*Turns around*
"Azara, Brikal; go find Gideon and begin searching for other enterances to the tunnel system. That cave in was no accident. Bear has plans for this area, and we must be ready to meet his forces. You are the best scouts we have, and information is critical."
"Ka, Kabre, Dallid, Curufin; take the sweeper and the guard to their families and expect to meet resistance. Rally the rest of the Phoenix Guard and anyone else who can fight. Bear might think we died in that cave in, but don't count on it. If he tries to punish the people for what just happened, I expect you to make him pay. The people will need protection at all times until we can end this threat, and both our finest fighters and healers will be needed on the front lines."
"Arthos, Kathryn; come with me. I need to speak with your alchemist. I have something that may give us an edge against Bear, but it needs to be examined."
"Those are my orders. If they are not heeded, I will know where I stand as Commander of the Phoenix Guard and Constable of Final Haven. Regardless, I will fight to protect all who reside here from the forces arrayed against us, from each other, and from themselves. Power by honor, might by right."
*Retrieves his equipment, dons his armor, and begins up the path to the Guild of Light.*

One should rather die than be betrayed. There is no deceit in death. It delivers precisely what it has promised. Betrayal, though ... betrayal is the willful slaughter of hope.
