With more thought I still have a problem. I mean I don't want to spend the money on real armor nor do I want to spend the time on chain. (notice I said I dont want to not that I dont have the capability..most everyone has the capability though they choose to see movies and stuff)
Anyways if you do spend the time why should you not get the bennifit?
I mean I say spend 20 bucks and 80 hours making some costume why should I not get a bennift over say a person wearing jeans.
Nat you sew...I dont sew. You have made costumes, but I cannot make costumes. Why should you get costume points for your costume while I only have jeans.
On another note there are other players in our game much more disenfranchised than either you or I and they always get max costume points.
I guess the thing is when you are at a larp you want o feel you are back in time. You dont go to the ren fair to see venders in jeans. I guess there needs to be something to encourage people to wear better stuff so we can either requiere it from everyone or say you can still play if you have not, but you wont get the bennifits of the haves.

A common theme in LARPs in my experience is " punish the player that doesnt meet the minimun standards, rather than trying to design fair rewards for those that do as they should"
To say it another way:
penalize the player wearing jeans rather than concocting a reward for the player wearing even a passable costume, since players SHOULD be wearing at least passable costumes.
If a player cannot afford solid color swaet pants($10), "payless" work boots($15), a belt ($10), and a tunic($10 for material-$10 or $15 to get Nat or Tonia to make it for you)(($50 -$55 total)); maybee this isnt the hobby for your current financial situation. Most players will have everything but the tunic.

here is an idea following my last post:
Have the GMs estimate the repair time of all 3 types( leather, chain, and plate) commonly worn. Include time to remove and done real versions of said armor type, and set the skill up so that even the player with "fake" armor cannot wear his armor for that amount of time. This way the player with the real armor get no bonus for aving invested in his costume because he can/chose to; and the player that couldnt/chose not to suffers the same disadvantage of being armorless.
Keep in mind, in the real world NO armor would get repaired in only 30 minutes, so making a warrior naked for that ammount of time is a minimum step twords realism.

Yes, but we also want to have fun. A good deal of realism must be sacrificed for that. Increasing fake armor repair time to match the time it takes to remove and don real armor just keeps everyone bored and idle that much longer. Also taking plate armor off and on is still an exhausting process - one that I, personally, am only willing to go through once a day since I'm not the big, hulking warrior brute my character obviously would be.
