Make sure to leave two inches of insulation extending past the end of the pipe for a thrusting tip

Yes, you're right. But the quote you gave me is under "the basic sword." It says nothing about other weapons such as daggers, fists, or claws. Also, it says nothing in the specifications on the length of a thrusting tip.

No where does this state this is a rule for all non-thrown weapon types. It is merely a suggestion on how to make a basic sword.

No no, it's supposed to be for every weapon. How you make a "basic" weapon is how you would make all weapons, I really don't understand the confusion on this one. The word basic infers that any flair you wanted to add to it you can, but these are the things that should be included in weapon construction.

Making Final Haven Safe Weapons and Traps Weapons

All weapons used in Final Haven must adhere to certain specifications. If your weapon does not meet the specifications, you will not be allowed to use it in game. All weapons must be checked by a safety marshal prior to their use in game. The chart below describes the weapon specifications.
You can view the chart on the top of page 93 in the rule book.

It does not give any specifications for the thrusting tip, or the padding on the pummel for that matter.

and no where under the "basic sword" section does it imply you HAVE to build it that way. And if it did, all weapons not made exactly in the way listed would be , illegal.

build something you yourself would want to get hit by and your fine, no need bringing up something that in all these years hasnt been an issue

The long of the short of it, is if you want a 2" thrusting tip to be required by rules, it needs to be up in the weapon specs. right now it's not, so it's a suggestion. I think we all want a safer, clearer ruleset.

If the basic sword is a requirment, well, any purchased sword, or any made sword that deviates at all would be removed. (don't think we want that either.)

Nothing a copy and paste can't solve.

Weapons
All weapons used in Final Haven must adhere to certain specifications. If your weapon does not
meet the specifications, you will not be allowed to use it in game. All weapons must be checked
by a safety marshal prior to their use in game. The chart below describes the weapon
specifications. The length of the weapon is the overall length and not just the length of the
striking surface. The maximum core diameter refers to the size of the rod or “former” that the
weapon is built around. Some suitable core material includes PVC, CPVC, Ratan, Fiberglass,
and carbon fiber. The core of the weapon needs to be stiff enough to keep the weapon from
“whipping” yet flexible enough to give slightly when someone is hit by it. The padding

requirement refers to the thickness of closed cell foam padding between the outside of the
weapon and the internal core.

Bows and Crossbows
A bow and crossbow deals a base damage of one vorpal. Heavy crossbows deal a base damage of
two vorpal and have a readying time of fifteen seconds. This applies to each time you shoot a
bolt. Any bow used in Final Haven must be rated at twenty-five pounds or less. The arrows used
cannot be real, of course. A guide to making safe arrows is on page 94.



The Basic Sword
Step one
Cut the CPVC pipe to the appropriate length according to the chart above. Make sure that the
diameter is correct for the weapon that you will be making. Hacksaws and tubing cutters work
well for cutting CPVC pipe.
Step two
Using at least 5/8 inch wall thickness CPVC pipe insulation, cut a length of it for the blade part
of your sword. Make sure to leave two inches of insulation extending past the end of the pipe for
a thrusting tip, and fill the end of the trusting tip with the same type of insulation. Use duct tape
to secure the insulation to the pipe. When you tape the insulation, make sure to have the tape
running only in the direction of the arrow in the diagram, and that there is only one layer of tape.

Step Three
Using the same insulation as before, make a hilt guard and a pommel. Make sure that the
pommel extends at least one inch out from the end of the CPVC pipe. Secure the hilt guard and
pommel onto the pipe with duct tape.
We ask that you do not weight your weapon in any other area but inside the CPVC pipe that is
the handgrip area. Any weight must be secured inside the pipe; it cannot move up and down the
pipe, EVER. This is extremely dangerous! If you choose to weight your weapon you must
NEVER swing your weapon in a manner in which there is even a remote chance that someone
may be hit with the weighted part of the weapon. Arrows and other projectile weapons may
NEVER be weighted!

The chart below describes general weapon specifications. For further information see your Safety Marshall.
With the billions of variations on the 'foam boffer', and the proliferation of Latex and Camacil weapons, it is impossible to list parameters for each possible weapon creation style.
If you have a specific complaint about weapons that are being allowed in your chapter I would suggest speaking with said 'Safety Marshall' about your concerns, or if you feel strongly enough about it then feel free to speak with your GMs as well.

This is worse than the press debate.

This is a non-issue. If you buy a weapon from a store, it comes as is. You assume the risk that it may not be safe at your chapter. Another chapter may have less stringent rules. Same thing goes for armor. In fact, I know for a fact that multiple people have made some nice armor and couldn't wear portions or all of it for safety reasons.

Now, if you make your own, follow the basic guidelines and you'll be fine.

wow, i really didn't think there was any confusion in weapon construction. I just think you people like to argue.

That being said, hey who wants to buy some legal weapons? :D

the issue isn't with the requirement of a Safetly marshal, the issue is whether a 2" thrusting tip is required. If it is, it needs to be put in. If it's just a guideline, then it's fine the way it is. Some of you say it's required, and some of you say it's guideline, and THATs the exact problem.

i just think that this is one of the smaller things to argue about, we all know that there are holes in the rulebook, yes i'm sure that the 2 inch tip is one of those "unwritten rules" that everyone gets upset about, but lets pick battles that are worth it, not nit pick over everything.

I understand the use of having a very clarified rule set, and i hope one day to have it, but after awhile the whole argument just reminds me of chickens clucking up a storm. Points have been made, everyone understands the arguement, so i say time to carry on. Then again i'm not a GM, so I'm sure i'm looking at it differant.
