She gave Val a nod. "Three may serve as well as four, I think, in this case." She drew another card and frowned darkly, her eyes meeting those of Atrum. She sighed. "The way will be dark indeed, I fear... dark indeed." Her violet gaze sought that of Val. "Let us prepare together then, with the elf Arthos of the Crescent Moon. I hold little hope of revelations, but we must try anyway."

After a coference in which the sages pooled their collective lore and divining capibilities, Vaun looked up at Dallid and sighed, putting away her cards.

"It is not one, but many, fortresses that thy foe hath at his command, and thus is thy task made even harder. This particular stronghold he hath used before, both in the past and here in the present. The gnome is as likley to be there as any of the others. The same can be said of thy for himself... if he is not there, then the way will be guarded by a host of his minions, but thou shalt also find in thy way puzzles of great cunning and traps of leathal kind. We must be sure we take those with us who have knowledge in thise areas if we are to survive.

"This is the trial before thee... and only worse could it be if he himself is there. Then it can be assured beyond doubt that death will fall on this party with swift wings."

She delivered this pronouncement of probable death without concern, desipte the fact that she too was going. She shrugged, "This is not new lore to thee, I think, so it will come as no surprise. When meddling in the affairs of dragons..." She shrugged again, as if the result were common sense.

“Corel indicated many fortresses are used by our foe, but this one in particular had held items the Dragon considers of value. She believes there we are most likely to find Ulie, provided the Dragon has not changed his ways.”

“I suspect the Dragon is aware of our efforts, however I doubt he will interfere directly. This is but a game to him, and we but pieces on the board. He finds amusement in witnessing Corel’s pawns vie against his own. He only manipulates the ‘game’ in accordance with the rules set in his mind. Thus do we yet live. Thus is victory attainable.”

"Thank you for your efforts. Merely the confirmation the fortress is indeed in use is valuable, as is the glimpse of what guards it."
