The monastery is a grim building chiselled out of the bedrock along the edge of a mountain range to the far north east. It faces open and desolate ocean, but was not always this way. In the days of its founding, a shifting sea of sand swirled outside the monastery, which sat in a lonely outcrop of stone beyond the Chaos mountains. The monastery of old served as a training group for the servants of Lassa who would leave their empire to conduct missions in the Eastern Kingdoms of Silverthorne, Alleria, and Silv'an'dar. Now the halls echo the whispered footsteps of the bare two dozen monks remaining.
After the cataclysm, cut off from their old lands, the monks took sustenance from the sea and the tough grainey vegetation clinging to the mountain slopes. They have sworn themselves to lives of charity and poverty, using only that which they can craft with their bare hands. All of their tools are of stone, wood, and woven from the reeds and grasses of the mountain slopes. They carry no weapons, but aquit themselves with a calm martial dedication coming from their long tradition as covert warriors of Lassa.
Now the brotherhood ventures out into the world once more, and ever so slowly their number is growing as students who have met the wandering monks return to the monastery to learn their secrets of survival in this harsh new world that Phanterra has become.
Each day with the Rising sun, the venerable Kallim addresses his students, teaching them first to control their minds, and then their bodies. It is through this strong will that his aged body continues to best many younger men.
With the setting of the sun the somber chanting of the monks over their looms echoes out to sea, as they weave magnificent grass rugs and containers, which are the sole trading commodity of this small outpost of civilization on the edge of the sea.
