Name: Ko'ha'shar'an'dar.
Population: 64 Valkyn’Vi. 103 elves
History: The tiny village of Ko'ha'shar'an'dar history is shrouded in pain and dead. It is a tiny Elven village on the edge of the river Mei’Beris. Ruled by the tyrant In're'kal, the village of Trees serves as an outpost against the Orc Nation Chuthanor. Oddly, the village was taken by the elves 200 years in the past in combat against the Orcs (850 p.e.w.). The Orcs had been threatening the fledgling Kingdom of Silverthorne. The king, in a rare show of faith, asked the elves to take the city and maintain an outpost. This was done without approval of the council and was kept a closely guarded secret for generations.
The Orcs had kept Valkyn’vi slaves. When the Elves, In're'kal in particular, defeated the Orcs the Valkyn’vi did nothing to help them. And so, In're'kal decided to keep them as slaves so they would learn their lesson. Some elves objected, but they could do nothing.
Three families of Valkyn’vi serve In're'kal. He keeps them in small thatch hunts at the base of the trees he and the other elves build their homes in. Some say that In're'kal is not a bad ruler. He fights to keep the lands safe and does not ask to much of those working for him.
But the burden on the Valkyn’vi is very large. The ‘Kal is a selfish, arrogant demanding man. He keeps the ‘Rien clan working hard in his house. The ‘Dendar Clan of Valkyn’vi he uses to scout his borders against the Orcs. Finally the ‘Kotor clan is forced to labor in the fields. The ‘Rien clan does it’s best to keep the other clans up and on their feet, but it is very hard.
Lastly the ‘Kal believes he is the savior of the Valkyn’vi, keeping them from terrible masters, the Orcs. As such he exercises his “Noble Right”. That is, the right to sleep with any of the Valkyn’vi he finds attractive at the moment.
The Valkyn’vi life before the ‘Kal was by no means easy. But it was a lot better than the elves think. The Elves treat them like trash. Garbage to be thrown away or cleaned up after. The Orcs treated them like valuable property, that is, a resource not to be squandered. This slight difference in their treatment has made all the difference. The Orcs kept them in warm houses and good food. They kept a close watch on them, like they would a priceless painting. They also did not have any sexual attraction to the Valkyn’vi, and would not damage their goods in such a way anyway.
Current status: In're'kal died a few years before the end times. His son, Arr’Re’Kal took over after his father’s sudden departure from this world. He is cut off from the elven nation, and the Orcs, even after the cataclysm have become powerful and often raid his lands. The remaining Valkyn’vi now out number the Elves.
Ecology:
The Ecology of the area is that of any tiny village on the river. The Forest in the area is thick redwood trees, that the Elves over time have culled to allow them to build their village in the branches. Vast rope bridges string the tiny settlement together. Only the Valkyn’vi live on the ground where predators like Chuul wolves can get to them.
Valkyn’vi houses can be spotted dotting the base of the trees like mushrooms. Each house contains at least five members of any clan at a given time. Unlike in other areas, the Clans here get along, out of mutual cooperation and inter marrying. It is often understood that they are really one large clan with the ‘Rien in charge.
The Ground under the trees is fertile enough that the Valkyn’vi can grow their herbs and medicines. Saffron, ginger root, Sassafras, pine nuts, Coriander and Goram masala are all grown outside each of the huts.
The River is thick with trout and bass, and the Valkyn’vi do their best to catch it and prepare it for the elves. The Elven families do not prefer red meat, and so the Valkyn’vi work to provide a steady diet of rice and fish. The Valkyn’vi eat what ever they can get, but mainly life on venison and more plentiful but less appetizing millet.
Across the river, to the west and at the base of the Barak’Kardon mountain range is Chuthanor, the Orc nation. It is less of a nation than a collection of Orc chiefs who fight each other as much as they raid the Elf lands. Once, in the years 995 through 1002, the tribes were united under the rule of a single chieften simply named Gromm.
The orcs, under the rule of Gromm, attacked the Kingdom of Silverthorne in an attempt to grab more land. This started the era of Silverthorne History known as the Grommish war. This war took a heavy toll on the Kingdom of Silverthorne and all but anialated Chuthanor. During the Grommish wars, the outpost of Ko'ha'shar'an'dar was widely ignored by the Orcs. In the years leading up to the cataclysm, Chuthanor has rebounded strongly. Still, even after the cataclysm, they remain a significant threat. They envy the crops of the elves and it does anger them that the elves took the Valkyn’vi away from them. They were useful slaves and would like to get them back.
Notable Figures:
Arr’Re’Kal: Son of In're'kal: He is a tall regal elf who believes he is being punished for his father’s sins. He thinks he should be back in the Elven noble courts, and not stuck in some backwater hell. His father angered some son of the Royal Family, and was sent out here to face the Orcs. Of course, his father died suddenly, and before he died, he was not able to get back in good graces. Now Arr’ is afraid that he is going to be trapped out here forever. He is tempted, since the cataclysm to pack up and leave the damn Valkyn’vi on their own and take the elves back to Sylv'an'dar. The only reason he hasn’t yet, is that he hasn’t reached an age where the other elves would listen. If someone else comes up with the idea, or he reaches sufficient age, then he’ll go.
Maha’za’rien:
She is old. Very old. She was born into slavery of the eleves, but her mother was a slave of the orcs. She is in a very real way the mother of all the Valkyn’vi. She, and her daughters keep a tight rein on them. Patience is a Valkyn’vi virtue. She has managed to keep a tight watch on Valkyn’vi losses against the elven cruelty. She has only lost two of her group to them. Two infatuated children who couldn’t keep their love below their duty to each other.
Maha’ is a very shrewd old woman. She sees every thing. She knows the Orcs want the Valkyn’vi, and she knows Arr’ wants to go home. She knows that she needs to wait until the time is just right. She plans on tricking the orcs to attacking, and then getting them to savage Arr’ as he packs to go home. That way the entire group of Valkyn’vi can slink into the night. Plans are already in motion. She has sent some message birds to some unknown ally, who will help them.
Dien’Shi’Kotor: Dien, is a half-Valkyn’vi/half-elf. That does not make her especially popular. What it does make her is an outcast. She is an Arcane/assassin empath with the ability to hide in shadows. She is the Keeper of the Kiss of the Valkyn’vi. She is the last living member of the Shi’teng’Kula, the Deathmakers. She kills people in silence . Her mother was the leader of the ‘kotor before she died in childbirth. Her father of course was In're'kal. Dien worships Maha’ as a mentor. It is Dien who raises the few males of the ‘rien clan and teaches them the Valkyn’vi arts. She will never leave Maha’s side, and would die to protect her.
