Witchwood

Witchwood... a foul brew indeed. It is a tall and twisted tree, nearly as hard as iron. The very subtance is toxic to most creatures, poisoning their biles and bilious fluids. Even a good bleeding, which may restore surface colour does little to alleviate the deep toxins, and any splinters left within a wound quickly fester in a most disturbing fashion.
Indeed this foul plant does not appear to be magical in any way, no more so than poison ivy or sumac, however its toxic effects are much worse. The plant is easily recognized by its midnight bark and purple leaves.
It likes to grow within shaded groves, in a damp temperate climate. It is often tended to by those creatures known as 'Forest Wraiths' and used in the crafting of their arrows and blades.
