A Messenger From Roderick

A man dressed in browns and greens enters the inn. He approaches Esmerelda who he knows to be the leader but talks loud enough for anyone to hear.

"King Roderick asked me to speak to you in person. He wants you to know that the elves have pulled out of Woodhold and marched in the direction of Haven. That they left seems ominous and that they walked instead of gated seems curious. Roderick is preparing his troops and is planning on aiding in the battle as planned but he wanted you to know of this development and seek any thoughts you and anyone one else in your command might have."

“This would suggest the gates are somehow trapped or rendered inoperative. Perhaps we should gate to Woodhold and strike from there rather than assaulting Haven directly. At the very least, a scouting force could set out from Woodhold to try to ascertain the state of the Haven gates. Regardless, such gates are likely well fortified. An overland strike may be preferable, as we would not be limited in our approach and assault options.”

They know... Well there goes the element of surprise. We need to know the status of that gate.

While we certainly agree that the elves are expecting an attack, we do not necessarily believe that they know who, how, or how many. We think as the ritual draws near, they expect, and rightfully so, that there will be significant resistance. If the rumors of this ritual are true, none of their other territory matters but rather only the success of the spell itself. We believe therefore that they are simply fortifying.

As for the lack of gate use, we don't know. We hope that it means they are being cautious themselves.

I agree with Dallid. If there is indeed a need for an overland scouting force, I will volunteer to help. My abilities in the wild are quite adequate, were the situation to get ample support, of course.

The status of that gate is probably going to be the status of most of their gates, if that one is shut down the the rest would most likely be too.
