But whose house is this? We certainly don't want any monsters running around the town. Especially ones who eat children.
*She smiles at the children*
Why don't you come and play with Em, Gall, and me and tell me some more?

The children look a little startled that some adult has snuck up on them. After only a moment though a young girl that is a bit taller than the rest says:
"That is old man Jamus's house"

"I see. I don't think I recognize some of you. My name is Esmerelda. I come in to town sometimes. I'm friends with Em, Gall, and Curtis. We like to play knights sometimes. I am the Lady of the Pond."
*She makes a grand sweeping gesture towards the pond*
"I can tell your fortunes for you. But since when has Jamus had an undead in his house? I had not heard of this."

All the children snicker
"no no Jamus died and now he ghost haunts his house. Only comes out at night"

Esmerelda smiles, knowing that laughing would hurt the small ones' feelings.
"No, my friends, Jamus is not a ghost. In fact he is very much alive. If you'd like, I could probably arrange it that you could see him in the daylight. Maybe even talk to him" her voice drops to a stage whisper, "if you dare."
She looks around at the small faces.
"Do any of you know anything about a talking rock?"

All of the children gasp at the same time and then run away save the taller girl who addressed you. She looks scared, but firm, and manages to say
"talking rock?"

A man with a red shirt said that a talking rock told him to buy that particular shirt. I didn't know if you had heard anyone else speaking about a talking rock? I know that usually the children are much smarter than the grown ups about what is going on in the town. I just wanted to see the talking rock for myself.
