The merchant

(oog sorry I haven't posted in a few days, work has been crazy)

Thank you master elf for your kind healing. The gentleman who untied me is indeed the same as dragged me into the woods. It would seem he believes I have stolen from him in the past, and sought retribution.

You see, I came here once many months ago, and on my way here met with a band of men trading arms and armor. Seeing the settlement in the distance, I thought to make some profit by purchasing those goods and trading them here.

When I arrived, the men at the top of the hill informed me that the items all belonged to them, and had been stolen. I told them that I regretted this greatly, and if true it was a costly loss, however I had paid dearly for such fine equipment and could not accept less than I had paid. I even agreed to a discount to return the items.

At the time I had but a single guard, and we were ambushed on the trail, after failing to strike and deal, and when we gained consciousness all our goods were gone. The man you call atrum was standing guard over us when we woke, and we managed to subdue him and escape. Doing him no lasting harm in the process, I might add. Because of this treatment I have hired a dozen guards instead of one, but even that seems no protection from this one. He is fast and cunning.

*Atrum glares at Arthos and Azara*
Yes it was me that tied this Sylvani thief up, he stole from us all and you people let him do it without cosequence, then he stole more from me. This is what I mean by who's laws are we to follow. Where I come from I was well within my right of retribution. You all act so high and mighty but left to you our little town would be robbed blind by people like this. You ask what will happen when merchants find that they are treated like thieves, let them come and be honest and trade in good conscience with us and nothing, but thieves that come and steal our own goods and try to sell them back to us will be treated as thieves. This man may have come into town with one person the last time he was here but Roland and I saw the others that he was with after following them out of town, and halfway to the next village over they joined up with yet another larger group of Sylvani. Hesent his men in to rob us and then tried to sell us back our own things.

*Glaring very intently at Arthos*
You ask if I think before I act, yes I think of the future of our community and giving free reign to thieves with no repurcussions to their actions is pure folly. This man now knows that it will not be tolerated here in Haven.

And don't speak to me as if you are my better, you are not. I saw the look on your face when Corbyn was torturing that murderer that you hold in your hall. Satisfaction is probably the best way to describe it. You can try and stand on your moral high ground but I know the truth.

*Atrum leaves headed for Roland's hall*

*Steps around in front of Atrium as he tries to leave. There is a noticable change in her face when the "murderer" is mentioned. She is obviously furious*

I don't think we are quite done with you yet, Atrium. You have taken it upon yourself to perform the duties of the Constable, and now you will wait to be addressed by him for your actions.

*Azara looks over to Donovan and then back to Arthos and Kathryn.*

*She then turns her full attention on Atrum to see what his next actions are.*

Donavan you may come and speak with me at your lesuire. Steps around Kathryn and continues on his way.

*Again, Kathryn moves to block Atrum, and does not allow him to pass her again, until Donovan gives the ok*

Atrum, unless you have something to hide, I suggest you wait for our Constable to handle the situation.

(OOG: I think it is only fair if we give Donovan a chance to actually respond here before we continue further. He is, after all, right there.)

*This time Azara moves away from her position and stands with Kathryn, blocking Atrum*

Ya heard the lady Atrum, stay here and allow the Constable to discuss things with ya right here and now.

*Arthos smiles and starts to chuckle*

Great job on capturing a thief.

*Arthos claps his hands together and laughs out loud. He becomes still and speaks in a flat voice*

We'll this is a very interesting situation you have placed this town in.
First, why did you not alert this town of this thief and his thieving group when he first attacked us. If we knew we could have better protected ourselves and know who to look out for? This is the first time most of us have heard of this.

Secound, Capturing a thief is great, I thank you, but beating him and letting him go and not letting any one know of it ,is we'll, supisious. I point blankely ask you where the merchant was when I was walking to the guild hall, and you never said, Oh Arthos beware he is a thief. Where you hoping for me to get robbed?

Third, It is you word against his. Why should I listen to you not him. What proof do you have? What did you find out when you and Lee Land tortured him?

Fourth, you knew that we have a constable who is suppose to handle these situations. Why not hold onto the thief until he came back? Did you want to take revenge for the insult and trouble he has caused you? Did you enjoy causing him pain?

To answer your other questions about Don-Mayo. You asked once to take possion of him, but we all know you would have killed him, just like you did to the other. You where there and heard what he had to say under torture which he agreed to! He want to clear everything up. I did not enjoy hurting him, but it is sometimes it is nessarcry to harm to determine truth and facts from lies and deciet. I do not like to do it, but in the times we are in, it has to be done. I'm willing to take responsiblity for my acitions. Are you, or are you just going to run of to your guild hall? Only cowards run.

I have never had the constable ask about Do-Mayo or youself ask for him to come up on trial for the murder. We have imprisioned him and kept him alive until laws are established to try him under. Unlike you we belive in justice and truth.
The guild has seen you trying to find out how to get to Do-Mayo so you can kill him like the assasin you are.

*Arthos turns to the Merchant*
Is what Artum says about you and you friends true? Tell me the truth because I have ways of knowing if you are lieing to me. And if you lie to me, mercy shall not be shown.

I am a sylvani, and I did take from this man after he stole the goods I have bought, and I did return and trade them with the forces of the warlord after being beaten here. But I did not steal from him in the first place, and the other sylvani I met up with did not steal. They visited the fishing village, and the iron mongers village last year. However, their profits were so low that they would not return this season.

I am no thief. I trade honestly, and work hard in dangerous times to bring goods and news to the lonely outposts of civilization.

*Azara's gaze grows colder after listening to Arthos and the trader. Her stance firms and is determined not to allow Atrum to pass.*

*Arthos smiles to the merchant*

Thank you

*Turns to Donavan*

Well constable what do you have to say about this mess.

by Atrum Draconus
*Atrum stands glaring at the two women obviously furious and continues to stare at them as he answers Arthos*

I did warn the people in the Inn when the trader arrived, ask Dallid he heard me and said that Eli was yet in your hall. I checked to make sure that my belongings and those within Roland's hall were safe and secure as well as looking to see of any of his men were lurking around.

Yes Roland and I found this man and his accomplice as they were leaving town, yes we waylayed them, and yes we took what they had on them. Our intentions were to return what each person paid to this thief for their own goods and return to him what was left and send him on his way with a warning to never do such a thing again. Unfortunately while I was securing his accomplice he got free and they both got away. He took everything of any value that I had on me and has just admitted to such.

I am most definitely willing to take responsibility for my actions, and I do not run away, I leave because I do not care for the tenor of your accusations and do not wish to discuss this further with you. Donovan and any of his men that wish to accompany him can speak to me about this matter at any time that he may wish. But I owe no further explaination to your or your 2 dogs here. Reign them in so that I may pass.

*Through gritted teeth*
Move

(OOG: I won't be back online until Monday)

*Azare glares at Atrum coldly and is not backing down.*

Why don't ya just try to make me move. Ya ain't goin' anywhere until the Constable says so. At this point I think for all that is concerned all Guild Heads at least should be present for this questionin', seein' as you just put all of us in danger.

This dog as you put it, ain't movin' nor is lettin' ya get away.

by Donovan Thynedar
*Donovan has been watching the exchange quietly, seemingly considering all of the statements put forth by those assembled.*

"My judgement is simple. There must be order in the Haven, and order requires law. Since we have no written laws as yet, if you believe someone to be in the wrong you must bring him or her before the Constable and state your grievance. To take any other action you risk being in the wrong yourself."

"At first light tomorrow, I will distribute the first of the laws that will govern the Haven. All will have a choice, to accept and live under those laws or live elsewhere. Anyone who remains at mid-day will have made the choice to become a resident of Final Haven and surrender their personal soverignty in exchange for the benefits of citizenship."

*Turns to Atrum and the Trader.*

"Since those laws are not yet in effect, both of you have a choice. Atrum, if you belive the goods to be stolen and wish to bring a grievance, then I will hear it. Trader, if you believe you have been wronged, you too may bring a grievance. Before you make your decisions, let me say this: there are far more pressing matter to be addressed, and my rulings will be swift and harsh. You both have the ability to walk away from this, and doing so would show that you have placed the welfare of the Haven above your own concerns. I will not tell you what to do, as I refuse to ignore an honorable grievance, but consider more than just slights and bruises in your decision."

*Wait for their reply...*

*To Donovan*
Thank you good sir but the matter was closed to me earlier today I have no more grievance with this man and may even trade with him in the future.

*Turns back*
Now move the fuck out of my way.

(Whether they move or not Atrum leaves)
