You imagine the "building" you saw originally in the chasm must have belonged to part of the ruins you came to in the end. You feel it's for the best not to go exploring too much beyond what is necessary, though. Some of the prisoners warn of other beasts down below, abominable snow worms and ice bats. And, the prisoners need an escort home sooner rather than later.
Many of the freed slaves do go back with you to Brennondale, though not all. A few hail from further afield. There are quite a few elves from Sylvandar, for instance. Laurel and Alea leave with them, rather than traveling with you, but there is much embracing and fervent thanks, again, before they depart. They mention that they may travel near Brennondale again someday, and if they do, they'll be sure to seek you out!
Feel free to make up the other details about the journey home as you wish! But, if you need a place to start, I will say you are trekking through rocky, snowy terrain. Someone may need to make a sled or two for the elderly. And, it's damn cold.
