A distant thump and clatter from the direction of the Keep rouse Dallid from his meditation. He listens intently for a moment, but, hearing no screams or cries of alarm, chalks it up to Malachi getting an early start on castle repairs. He settles back down, though remaining a bit more alert.

*Aurora helps Ulfgar get to his feet and takes a look at him (assess).*

Dallid!!! I need you please. It's Ulfgar and he's in bad shape.

Hearing the racket from the kitchen, Fionna raises alarm. Once Aurora calls for Dallid, she knew she could make it to what ever the issue was before Dallid could.

"Aurora, what is the matter? Such commotion this early. I'll be right there!" She shouts to her friend from across the room.

She runs to the young lady and dwarf and begins to assess the injuries.

Aurora’s cry is plenty evidence there is trouble, and Dallid is immediately off and running. As he approaches the Keep, he can see Ulfgar laying in the opened gate, attended by both Aurora and Fionna.

“What has happened?” He shouts as he closes distance.

:ulfgar is unresponsive, aurora would try to help him to his feet but his thick frame is making it difficult he tries to gain his balance but the attempt only results in failure as he falls forward towards Fionna, as aurora and Fionna assess ulfgars wounds they see bruises all over his face and shoulders, his left eye is clouded with dried blood, diagonal scratches line down under his chain mail shirt and his knee is bent off to the right, it appears to be broken. :

:ulfgar tries to speak but all that comes out is just a fit of coughs and blood that dots the keep floor:

*Aurora looks shocked and puzzled trying to take everything in from what she can tell is wrong with him.*

Ulfgar, what...who did this to you? Are there any others who are hurt out there?

*Looks at Fionna and Dallid*

Thank you both for coming so quickly. Maybe I should go check outside and see what is going on out there.

Knocked off balance by the dwarf's fall, Fionna attempts to lay the dwarf on the ground gently. She begins to attend to his injuries.

She looks to Aurora, "He should be fine. Maybe it would be best if look around just to be safe. Thank you."

Once Dallid arrives, "Thank you for the help Dallid, but I think he will be fine. It would probably be best if we bring him inside."

After healing the dwarf, she helps him to his feet and gently guides him into the main room of the building and sets him in a chair. She walks to the kitchen, pours him a cup of tea and grabs a piece of bread.

"Here, a little nourishment should help you feel better."

"Yes, help him inside. I'll keep an eye out here with Aurora until Ulfgar relays what happened."

*Aurora nods at Fionna*

I'll do a sweep of the area and will return in a bit. I'll see if there are any tracks out there.

*Aurora heads out*

:as Fionna attends to ulfgar, most of his wounds are healed, however the clouding in his left eye remains as a scar, ulfgar slowly starts to regain conciseness and sees Fionna with a cup of tea and bread.

"Fionna is that you? :ulfgars voices has a rasping quality, takes hold of the mug and bread, the contents of the mug ripples from the shake in ulfgars hand. upon finishing the bread and tea he continues, his face is grim:

"fionna, zeira has become leader of avangard, and has appointed noble as sheriff. he accused me of trying to murder ark and he would have had me killed as an example if i hadnt been amongst my own kin." :another coughing fit hits the dwarf as he lay slumped in the chair:

"They appointed Zeira as leader? I knew many in Avengard were a tad off, but wasn't it Zeira who stole all the town resources a year ago? And he appointed Noble as sheriff?! Isn't that like appointing a fox to watch the hen house?" She says in surprise almost missing the rest of what Ulfar said.

"You are safe for now. If however, what you are accused of is true, you will not be safe here forever. We will not harbor murderers. You have never made me doubt in the past, so for now I will trust you."

She looks to the kitchen, "Esmerelda, maybe you should come out here. I'll finish breakfast."

:after his coughing fit ulfgar spat out more blood: aye, zeira did steal from avangard and trust me, :ulfgar looked Fionna in the eyes:

"i am no murderer."

Esmerelda listens from the kitchen. Pulling the pans off the stove she heads out to the main room with a sigh. No sleep and now this? Damned portals.

"Zeira is in charge there? Good. He'll do a good turn for that town. From what I've heard Avengard needed someone who would actually take action in charge. While he does not always make the best decisions, he certianly is a man of action."

She looks intently at Ulfgar. "And I know Zeira well enough to know he would not attack someone without cause."

:ulfgar turns his head to esmerelda and a few audible pops are heard:

" you are right, m'lady zeira dinnae lift a hand in offense,"

:ulfgar lifts arm and rubs the back of his head:

"noble, however gave me a nice dunt on the head though and there is a special place in my heart fer the interrogator they hired to try and get me to take the fall fer the so called attempt on ark"

:ulfgar turns his head and more pops as he slowly stands up to face esmerelda from his chair, his clouded eye twitching as if trying to focus:

"like i said, i am no murderer and all of yeh know that!. ark is a coward and by the herald is he annoying, but that doesn't mean ah'm goin teh kill 'im! Now 'as anyone seen orien? ah think I'd like to have me eye back."

*After a little bit Aurora comes back into the keep she notices the crowd now gathered around Ulfgar.*

I didn't see any tracks or anything of use...

*Looks at the group*

So, what have you guys discovered while I was gone. Why was Ulfgar so badly beaten up? Who did this and why?
