I understand the desire to have whose direction in the rules.(i love to clarify rules, sometimes the only reason I get in the morning.) But in this instance, in the heat of combat NO ONE is going to know who's right. Just hit them, and point, and everything will go fine.

With me, if I'm pressing someone, I'll usually hit them with my weapon on the side I want them to go.
IE. We are facing each other and hit you on your right arm and say press or press right, The person I am pressing has always moved AWAY from the weapon because it makes no sense to move into the weapon. By moving "herding" them in this way it's easy to convey which way you want them to go.
